Production

The intention is to use this page to show the books in various states of production (bit of a teaser page I suppose). A lot will depend on how busy I am and when I can get to the binders but for now ... here goes. I spent Thursday 16th Sept over in Ludlow - it was supposed to be a flying visit but I ended up stopping the best part of eight hours. I got to see the blocking on The Chosen lettered edition and the Deluxe edition of The Sphinx having it's spine backed. Had a great day so thanks to Paul, Phil and everyone else for the time they spent with me.

The Sphinx Deluxe - sewn book blocks with ribbon markers

Chosen Lettered - ribbon bookmarks being glued in place.

Chosen lettered - creating the raised bands by laying in thin strips of leather.

Chosen lettered - after making the raised bands the spine can be blocked. This was the first one done!

Chosen Lettered - pretty much finished - the raised bands need working up and the book block was only loosley fitted so I could take a pic. It weighs a ton - more fool me for offering free shipping to collectors club members!

After the spine has been rounded it is backed - Sphinx Deluxe

Chosen Lettered - text blocks have been sewn and backed, edges have been gilded.

Chosen Lettered - boards bound in red Morocco leather and ready for blocking. If memory serves me correctly the blocks shown are made from magnesium.

Chosen Lettered - raised bands have been created and are ready to be "worked up" to give them greater definition.

Chosen Lettered - jump ahead a bit and the front board has been blind stamped then a black leather panel cut to fit then blocked with the title.

Chosen Lettered - traycases have been started. These are the two internal parts covered in black siltex.
