I spent a great deal of time at the binders trying to decide on the design of the traycases for the lettered editions. The one thing that was fixed in my mind was that it had to be a solander (clamshell) traycase ie. whilst most traycases are basically a box with a lid, solander traycases open out flat and are much more robust. The question was really about the binding material and whether I could afford to use a rounded spine - which is pretty rare. Well, as this press is all about quality I decided to go for broke - my lettered editions are, for the most part, issued in the BEST solander traycases on the market. They are hand made with a round spine effect (making them look like a very big book!), quarter bound in leather with gilt lettering to the spine.
UPDATE - As you all know this is a small business and customer feedback is very important to me. A number of people have expressed a desire to buy a lettered edition however the price is an issue. For me, it has always been about the books - not the cases - so from September 2011 I am making available the option to purchase a lettered edition book in a hand made slipcase rather than a traycase which drops the price quite considerably. Traycases will still be available to those customers who want them.
